Shamar Hawkins brings veteran ball-hawking edge to Jackson State’s secondary
In the 2024 season, Jackson State DB Shamar Hawkins delivered a disruptive, all-around season with 49 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, 3 sacks, 2 interceptions, and 1 pass breakup, then entered 2025 as a senior and preseason watch-list name for the Aeneas Williams Award. He’s a sturdy 5-foot-11, 197-pound defensive back who plays with downhill urgency, can blitz like a nickel linebacker, and has the kind of run-support toughness coaches love. If a team wants a physical, versatile DB who makes noise near the line of scrimmage, Hawkins absolutely fits the bill.
