Devonte James brings veteran-playmaker juice to Albany State's secondary
Devonte James is a 5-foot-10, 180-pound safety from Terrell County High School who arrived at Albany State with a strong prep résumé, including two Region Player of the Year honors and two All-State selections. He’s shown real impact potential in the Golden Rams’ defense, including a 9-tackle outing in the 2023 Coastal City HBCU Classic and a pick-six in a 2025 Fountain City Classic win. His calling cards are range, ball skills, and run support; the value add is that he already plays like a tone-setter, not just a coverage body.
