Alabama State’s 307-Pound Defensive Anchor with Elite Intensity
Shaq Powell, the 6-3, 307-pound defensive lineman for Alabama State Hornets, stands out not just for his size but for his relentless intensity and redshirt sophomore maturity. Unlike typical DTs who rely solely on bulk, Powell combines rare leverage, quick first-step explosiveness, and a personality that elevates his teammates’ focus during high-pressure games. Though he played offensive line in 2015–2017 (amassing 386.3 yards/game as part of the OL), his 2026 transition to DT showcases adaptability and a unique differentiator: he reads opponents like a former blocker. No major injury history, and his intensity level is consistently described by coaches as ‘game-changer.’ If your team needs a DT who brings physical dominance, mental sharpness, and locker-room energy, Powell is a perfect fit.
