Michigan opened their season with a convincing 34-17 victory over New Mexico, powered by Justice Haynes' dominant three-touchdown performance on the ground. The Wolverines jumped out to a 14-0 first-quarter lead before the Lobos showed signs of life in the second quarter, narrowing the gap to 17-10. Quarterback Bryce Underwood connected with Marlin Klein for a crucial touchdown before halftime, and Michigan maintained control throughout the second half to secure the win at the Big House.
