Ball State defeated Akron 42-28 in a back-and-forth MAC showdown at Scheumann Stadium. The Cardinals were led by quarterback Kiael Kelly, who accounted for three rushing touchdowns and added a 29-yard scoring pass to Koby Gross. After four lead changes in the first three quarters, Ball State pulled away in the fourth, with TJ Horton's electrifying 90-yard kick return touchdown with 5:34 remaining putting the game out of reach for the Zips.
