Bernard Lackey Jr. is a 6-foot-2 freshman defensive back at East Carolina with three-star pedigree and Power Four recruiting interest, which tells you the Pirates saw real upside here—not just a warm body in the depth chart. He chose ECU over offers from Michigan State, Ole Miss, Pittsburgh, Tennessee, West Virginia and others, a good sign his length, movement and ceiling translated beyond the stat sheet. The catch: as a first-year player, his on-field college sample is still thin, so the appeal is projection, competitiveness and developmental upside more than proven production.
