Veteran depth back with proven FCS production, but still hunting a WKU breakthrough
In the 2024 season, Jalen Hampton gave Western Kentucky steady depth, rushing for 57 yards on 11 carries over seven games after transferring in from Elon, where he had a bigger 2023 season with 880 rushing yards and six touchdowns. He’s a compact 5-9, 206-pound back with real experience, but his WKU role has been limited so far, including 27 rushing yards in 2025. Why care? He brings toughness, ball-carrier experience, and depth-chart reliability; the fit makes sense for a team needing a dependable rotational runner, not necessarily a featured bell cow.
